Our seventh open practice is led by Kobe Van Cauwenberghe.
Kobe has explored experimental works that connect orchestral textures with improvisational freedom, inspired by innovative traditions that rethink the orchestra. With repertoire from visionary AACM composers such as George Lewis, Wadada Leo Smith, Nicole Mitchell, Anthony Braxton, Douglas Ewart, and others, his Creative Orchestra Lab offered a unique opportunity to delve into music that challenges hierarchies, blurs genres, and redefines the role of the performer.
Kobe discusses graphic scores, conduction systems, and open forms—studying, interpreting, and transforming them—to develop skills in collective creativity, listening, and musical leadership.
