January 2017. Walter is still an empty warehouse, freshly vacated by its previous owners. There is one tiny toilet, and the only staircase is in a questionable state. The bar is a table with two crates of beer underneath, and we can see our breath in the cold air. The laws and objections of the fire brigade, insurance companies and Class 2 environmental permits are not yet standing between us and the dream. The first artists have claimed a studio space for themselves, and it is there that Les Chroniques de l’Inutile get to reign supreme for an evening. After almost a decade of Walter, inviting them back felt like the most natural thing in the world!
Now, the band returns to celebrate its fifteenth anniversary and the release of its third album, Hapax (IGLOO Records). The album features twelve compositions by Sauzereau, written in his familiar, poetic style, with a fondness for unusual forms, abrupt shifts, rich arrangements and playfulness. His compositions are always written with specific musicians in mind — musicians with diverse backgrounds and vivid imaginations. They are precise, yet leave plenty of room for unexpected detours. And this time, they can finally be experienced in Walter’s concert hall.
